Today I will be writing a review about a funky rosé wine from Badacsony.

Hello again, I said in my previous post that I would be writing about Tokaj for the next few days but unfortunately I was called back to Budapest for a medical emergency. Sad story for my friend but I made it up to him by letting him taste some of my personal Tokaj wines, later more about that.

Now a bit about Sabar they are located in Badacsony, the northern part of lake Balaton. They are young … the winery was created in the fall of 2009 by two friends. Their goal was to produce excellent quality wines suitable for every occasion, well they managed to do this pretty well ! Their rosé wine made from only Kékfrankos grapes was a delight! A pretty young wine but yet so elegant, this is very rare in rosé wines!

The wine became elegant by harvesting them early and let them ferment in stainless steel tanks. This made them keep the fresh flavors but increase the acidity, very common with fresh wines that are fermented in stainless steel tanks.
It has a nice salmon rosé color, with a nice strawberry smell in the nose with hints of raspberry, when tasting the wine you get the first impressions of sweet strawberries and the high acidity but they are nicely balanced. It has a 12.5% alcohol which is already in my opinion a little bit heavier.  All in all a nice and elegant wine, very young and refreshing at the same time.

I will be posting quite a bit of reviews in the next couple of days. There will be some sweets from Tokaj, a red French wine from the Bordeaux and a wine from the ”more expensive” range. So keep your eyes on the page and/or follow me to get an instant notification in email !
