Today another wine from the BordoBlend wine tasting.
One of my other stops on the tasting was at Gere, world famous for his Kopar (the middle one on the picture). I tried all three wines on the picture but I would like to talk about the Solus (The bottle on the right).
It’s a wine made of 100% Merlot which were grown in the Kopár hills, and the wine was aged in new barrique barrels. 2009 started with a bit of trouble, having heavy rainfall and hail storms during the spring and early summer. Towards the end of the summer it became warm and sunny and this went on till autumn when the harvest took place. This weather caused this wine to be perfectly balanced. And 2009 to be a great vintage across whole Villány.
I will be honest about this wine, it blasted me away when I tried it. It had a deep red brick color. The smell was complex but very pleasant, while the flavors were like an orgasm in my mouth, cherry’s, plums and prunes with elegant new oak flavors. The tannins were round and elegant but did not fill the whole flavor yet. I am convinced that this wine can at least age for another 5 to 10 years.
