Something I have always hoped would happen one day has finally happened! Hungarianwines.eu is organizing the very first Hungarian web writing contest!

The contest is divided into three categories and each category has a specific extra prize orientated around the topic. The articles have to be in either English or Hungarian and will be checked by a panel of three or four judges. There will be three Hungarian winners and three English winners.

Let’s break down the categories and prizes;

  • Every winner from each category, English and Hungarian will receive a large format Cava.
  • All the wining articles will be posted on Hungarianwines.eu
  • The winner of each category will receive an electronic badge you can place on your webpage

The best English article of all three categories will receive a 4 day (3 night) all inclusive trip to Hungary (from 16 till 19 August 2018). This also includes a return airline ticket from any European city to Budapest with one normal luggage. You will receive accommodation for three nights, meals, transfers to the airport and back, transfers to the program venues and at least three exclusive winery visits. 

The other two category winners will also receive the trip in Hungary but they will have to purchase an airplane ticket themselves.

The first Category: Tokaj again! 

Talk about Tokaj, the sweet wine region of Hungary. A region with a history going back decades. You can talk about anything you like as long as it is about Tokaj, the recent changes in Tokaj, a sub region, a wine style, how Tokaj is changing to deal with the tourism. This is in my opinion one of the best topics, there is still so much to be said about Tokaj!

  • The winner of this category (one Hungarian and one English) will receive a case of 6 bottles of Pajzos Tokaj Tokaji Aszú 2013
  • The winner of the category can participate in the study tour organized on 16–19 August 2018. The trip includes transfers between the venues, accommodation, meals and tastings. A special feature of the study tour is a visit to Pajzos Tokaj winery in Tokaj with one of the most precious vineyards in Hungary.
  • All three finalists will receive a selection of 6 bottles of wine made by Pajzos Tokaj ( 1 Tokaji Szamorodni 2015, 2 Furmint 2016, 1 Megyer Selection 2015, 1 Late Harvest 2015 and 1 Tokaji Aszú 2013)
  • All three finalists will also get an invitation to the award ceremony event in Hungary at the Haraszthy Winery.

 

The second Category: Red is the Colour!

This category is pretty straight forward, write about a Hungarian red wine, a style, a grape variety or a wine region. Everything works!

  • The winner of this category (one Hungarian and one English) will receive a bottle of Museal Villányi Musktály 1985 in a wooden box.
  • The winner of the category can participate in the study tour organized on 16–19 August 2018. The trip includes transfers between the venues, accommodation, meals and tastings. A special feature of the study tour is a visit to Csányi Pince in Villány they have one of the longest cellar labyrinths in Hungary.
  • All three finalists will receive a Double Magnum Bottle of Teleki Kővilla Selection Villányi Franc.
  • The winning article will be translated and published in the Pécsi Borozó Magazine.
  • All three finalists will also get an invitation to the award ceremony event in Hungary at the Haraszthy Winery.

The third Category: Colourful Hungary

The last category allows you to write about about food and wine! Wine and food pairing or a different view on wine and gastronomy, it can all go in here!

  • The winner of this category (one Hungarian and one English) will receive a Complete C2 Jubilee PowerLine vacuum cleaner from Miele Ltd.
  • The winner of the category can participate in the study tour organized on 16–19 August 2018. The trip includes transfers between the venues, accommodation, meals and tastings.
  • All three finalists will receive a Miele Coffee kit ( two coffee cups and a pack of Miele Coffee)
  • All three finalists will also get an invitation to the award ceremony event in Hungary at the Haraszthy Winery.

 

The deadline to enter the contest is 30 June midnight. All articles should be submitted by email to info@hungarianwines.eu, the email should include a link to the article, the name, email address and telephone number of the contestant.

The articles will be judged by the specific jury members between 1 and 15 July. On the 20th of July three winners of each category in English and Hungarian will be announced on the web page. From 21 July till 5 August midnight people can vote, one person can only vote once. The contestant who will receive the highest number of votes in all three categories added up in the given language will become the absolute winner. There will be an absolute winner in both languages.
