Badacsony is one of the wine regions located around the Balaton lake. in this case at the north coast. There is roughly 1600 hectares of area under cultivation; with major grapes types being white. It’s number 1 on this map.
Grape varieties :
- Olaszrizling (welschriesling)
- Pinot Gris
- Muscat Lunel
The soil in the lower areas of the volcanic hills are made out of loess, sandy clay and sand, but when you move up you’ll find more basalt and basalt-tufa rubble. The balaton lake prevents extreme weather conditions therefor the region is considered to have a sub- Mediterranean climate, There is a lot of sunshine and the hills protect the grapes from the eastern wind.
