This tasty white wine made by Orsolya Pince, hailing from Ostoros, a small village in the Eger wine region in the northern part of Hungary, is an absolute gem. It was harvested in the fall of 2019 and bottled at the end of June 2020.
The color is a light straw yellow. On the nose, it has the typical petrol notes from bottle aging, accompanied by ripe white stone fruits like peaches and subtle hints of lemon. When tasting the wine, we found the petrol to be quite dominant, with juicy peaches and light notes of herbs and lemon.
The wine tastes almost sweet due to its high alcohol content (14.5%). It feels rather low in acidity, which is uncommon for an olaszrizling, and has a medium body with a medium-long, dry finish.
We combined the wine with a typical Hungarian dish called Lecsó (the closest translation would be ratatouille—the dish, not the Disney rat!) and finished the bottle the next day with some grilled sausages. In my opinion, this wine is at the perfect age to be drunk now, and we enjoyed it very much!
