Hello everyone, this is the next wine I’ve opened after the Malatinszky Noblesse Merlot rosé. As I wanted to spoil my wife a bit I decided to open a Sauvignon Blanc from a winery I respect, the winery makes high quality wines for effort able prices.

Gilvesy is located in Hegymagas, a small town at the foot of the Szent-György hill and just 10 kilometers out of the main town in Badascony. They are focused on making wines with Hungarian grape varieties like the olaszrizling and rajnai rizling, while using both old and new wine making technologies. I will talk in more detail about the winery in separate article.

Now lets talk wine !
A single vineyard Sauvignon blanc, from the North side of Szent György-Hegy. The soil is mainly sandy loam and some basalt chunks. The vineyard was planted in the 1980s and goes by the name Mogyoros. The grapse were hand harvested, there was a spontaneous fermentation in 500 liter Zemplén oak barrels with cooling and it aged in barrel for 6 months.

The wine has a clean and medium+ intensive nose with a pleasant creamy, buttery, toasty nose which is also full of minerals. The flavor is medium intensive and clean as well and i good harmony with the flavor, well balanced acidity and alcohol and next to the flavors of the nose coming back I could also detect a bit of citrus fruits. All in all this is not your every day ”fruity and fresh” Sauvignon blanc, but a more complex yet easy to drink one.

Side information about the wine :

Winery : Gilvesy Pincészet

Year : 2014

Type : White, single wine variety of Sauvignon Blanc

Vineyards : Mogyoros

Where to buy : This specific Sauvignon Blanc is sold out completely in Bortársasag but I suggest to try their other wines, the full range is sold there.

Price : Costed 3300 Hungarian forints which is roughly 11 euros.

Score : 95 points, I think that this wine has no flaws, is well balanced and tasty.
